When “My Kids Don’t Want My Stuff” Stops Being the Roadblock
Yesterday’s Lunch & Learn at Berkeley Square confirmed something I see every day: people aren’t stuck because they don’t want to move—they’re stuck because they don’t know what to do with a lifetime of belongings.
With more than 36 engaged attendees, we had an honest, practical conversation about the real roadblock: the belief that the only choices are keep everything or get rid of everything. Once that myth is named, shoulders drop—and planning can finally begin.
We talked through realistic options for belongings people won’t take with them: what’s worth selling (and what isn’t), meaningful ways to gift or donate, how to repurpose or recycle responsibly, and why “packed” does not mean “gone.” Most importantly, we focused on sequencing—creating a plan that allows decisions to happen over time, without pressure or panic.
The takeaway was simple and powerful: your stuff shouldn’t keep you stuck in a home that no longer serves you. With the right plan and the right support, moving forward becomes possible—one clear step at a time.
If this conversation resonates with you—or someone you love—this is exactly the work we do every day at Lyn’s Daughter: helping people move forward with clarity, dignity, and support.
